The sixth pattern – 1969
This 25mm-wide lapel pin is inspired by a significant transitional version of the Rising Sun badge introduced in 1969.
This design featured the inscription “Australia” and incorporated a new Federation Star above a heraldic wreath, marking another stage in the evolution of one of the Army’s most recognisable symbols. Although this updated badge was never fully issued, it remains an important and intriguing part of the Rising Sun story, reflecting ongoing efforts to modernise and adapt Australian military insignia during the period.
Finely detailed in miniature form, this lapel pin offers a distinctive tribute to a brief yet meaningful chapter in Australian Army badge history, making it a thoughtful collectable for those with an appreciation for military heritage, design development and the enduring legacy of the Rising Sun.
