The second pattern – April 1902
This 25mm-wide lapel pin is inspired by the second pattern Rising Sun badge, a modified version created for the Australian Commonwealth Horse.
The design introduced a scroll bearing the words “Commonwealth Horse” and altered “Australia” to “Australian”, giving the badge its own distinct identity. Historically, the badge was produced in oxidised brass, with the lettering and key details highlighted by rubbing back the darkened finish to reveal the brighter brass beneath. Positioned above the scroll was the Tudor Crown, reinforcing the strong imperial character of the design.
Rich in military heritage, this finely detailed lapel pin offers a meaningful way to recognise the origins of one of Australia’s most enduring military symbols.
