The fifth pattern – 1954
This 25mm-wide lapel pin is inspired by the fifth pattern Rising Sun badge, adopted in 1954 following the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
This version marked an important development in the evolution of Australian Army insignia, with the earlier Tudor Crown replaced by St Edward’s Crown to reflect the new reign. It also featured a more streamlined design, while retaining the scroll inscribed with the words “Australian Military Forces”. Representing a shift in post-war military aesthetics, the fifth pattern badge reflected the changing identity of the Australian Army during the mid-twentieth century.
Finely detailed and rich in historical significance, this lapel pin offers a distinctive tribute to one of the most recognisable symbols in Australian military history, making it a meaningful collectable for those who value Army heritage and tradition.
