The third pattern – May 1904
This 25mm-wide lapel pin is inspired by the third pattern Rising Sun badge, featuring the scroll inscription “Australian Commonwealth Military Forces”.
First introduced in the early twentieth century, this important design was worn throughout both the Great War and the Second World War, making it one of the most recognised and enduring versions of the Rising Sun badge. Since its introduction, the fundamental form of the design has remained largely consistent, although later versions saw changes to the wording on the scroll and the style of the crown.
