Meet Valour Bearâ„¢ Lieutenant Charlie. Inspired by the courageous airmen of the Australian Flying Corps, Charlie enlisted for war service in 1915 and began his flying training at Point Cook, Victoria. After earning his wings, he embarked for Egypt and joined No. 1 Squadron, supporting Allied forces throughout the Sinai and Palestine campaigns.
Flying high above the desert, Charlie carried out vital reconnaissance, artillery-spotting and patrol missions, often facing enemy aircraft and ground fire. His keen eyesight, steady hands and quiet courage earned the trust of those serving below.
Charlie proudly wears the distinctive wings of an Australian Flying Corps pilot, together with an officer’s service dress and leather Sam Browne belt. His khaki forage cap carries the 3rd Pattern Rising Sun Badge and his sleeves bear the triangular Australian Flying Corps colour patch.
Following the Armistice, Charlie returned home in 1919, carrying with him lasting memories of his comrades and the pioneering spirit of Australia’s earliest military aviators.
Charlie features articulated arms, legs and head with flexible joints, allowing for fully poseable display.
Each Valour Bear® features an individually numbered heart button sewn onto its left foot and is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity. Every Valour Bear® is presented in a beautifully crafted display box.
