The Waler, a breed specifically developed for Australia's rugged terrain, proved to be a resilient companion during battles in the deserts of the Middle East. The Australian Light Horse played a crucial role in the Mediterranean and Egyptian Expeditionary Forces, engaging in conflicts against the Ottoman Empire in Gallipoli, Sinai, Palestine, and Syria. Unlike traditional cavalry, the light horse operated as mounted infantry, dismounting to fight on foot. This figurine captures the essence of their bravery and camaraderie.

I am beyond delighted with this bronze. Originally I had wanted the charging figurine which, not unsurprisingly, was sold out. However the "Waler's Mate" is not second best and quite touchingly shows the great bond between the trooper and his mount. I shall treasure this beautifully executed bronze
