This lapel pin draws on the design of a 1913 Royal Australian Navy uniform button. Finished with a domed face, rope edge border and gold-plated surface, it presents a clean and considered interpretation of the original. At 23mm in diameter, it offers a subtle yet distinctive nod to Australia’s naval heritage. Each pin is presented on a custom backing card, suitable for both wear and display.
The design is inspired by early Royal Australian Navy officer’s buttons, commonly referred to as the “Lazy Anchor” pattern. Australia’s naval forces were established on 1 March 1901, with the title Royal Australian Navy granted in 1911. The early button design featured an angled anchor, giving rise to the “lazy anchor” name, before later being standardised to an upright anchor from 1928.
