This remarkable collection commemorates 125 Years For Our Nation and traces the evolution of one of the Australian Army’s most enduring symbols, the Rising Sun badge.
Before Federation, each of the six Australian colonies maintained its own military forces. On 1 March 1901, these separate forces were unified as the Commonwealth Military Forces. Just over a year later, in February 1902, the first pattern Rising Sun badge was introduced for Australian contingents raised for service in the Second Boer War. In April 1902, a second pattern followed for the Australian Commonwealth Horse. The third pattern, introduced in 1904, established the familiar Rising Sun design that has remained a defining symbol of the Australian Army ever since.
Over the decades, the badge has evolved to reflect changing eras, with further developments introduced in 1949, 1954, 1969, 1991 and most recently in 2025, when the eighth pattern was updated to feature the Tudor Crown in recognition of the reign of King Charles III.
This limited-edition collection includes an individually numbered gold-plated Australian Army medallion featuring the official Army – 125 Years For Our Nation logo on the reverse. Accompanying the medallion are eight individually numbered 25 mm limited-edition lapel pins, each representing a distinct pattern in the history of the Rising Sun badge.
