Description

The book "Armageddon and OKRA" explores the development of Australian air power over the course of a century. It highlights the significant progress in technology that has shaped aviation in Australia, from the early days of flying the flimsy Bristol Boxkite to the advanced Bristol F2B Fighter. The book also examines the deployment of Australian squadrons to the Middle East in 2014, drawing parallels to the events that took place in the Wadi Fara in 1918. By analysing these operational events, the author establishes the connection between access to air power technology and Australia's enduring foreign and defence policy.

About the Author: Dr. Lewis Frederickson

Dr. Lewis Frederickson is an expert in the history and strategy of air power. As the Chief of Air Force Fellow at the University of New South Wales and Australian Defence Force Academy, he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his lectures. With a background as an RAAF Officer and deployments to the Middle East Region, Dr. Frederickson has a deep understanding of the subject matter. His passion for history, archaeology, literature, society, and culture aligns perfectly with his role as an educator. The publication of "Armageddon and OKRA" is a significant achievement in his thirty years of service in the Air Force. Currently settled in Canberra with his young family, Dr. Frederickson is also pursuing postgraduate studies at Oxford University.
