Australia Under Attack Medallion
The Medallion is of exceptional quality and well-presented
The Australia Under Attack limited edition medallion commemorates the attacks which gave rise to fears of a Japanese invasion of Australia during the Second World War. Between February 1942 and November 1943, Australia suffered 97 air attacks on towns and ports across the north of Western Australia, the Northern Territory, and Queensland. Darwin, which was within striking range of Japanese objectives on the islands to the north of Australia, was an important staging ground for Allied troops and supplies. It was the target of 67 separate attacks. The air raid campaign cost some 900 lives, both military and civilian.
